Summer is coming, is your outdoor living space ready?
With summer 2020 just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about your outdoor living space. Whether it be on a porch, patio, or deck, summer memories with family and friends begin outdoors.
There are many ways to ensure your outdoor living space is ready for gatherings all summer long. The following are suggestions for adding functionality to and extending the useability of your outdoor space. Check out these items to ensure you are ready for the coming summer months.
Add Some Power to the Outdoors
Adding an electrical outlet to your patio or deck is our first piece of advice. Whether it is used for a smart home device that streams music, TV summer sporting events or even an electric fireplace to warm the chill in the evenings, adding electricity to your outdoor living area opens a vast range of new possibilities and convenience.
Add Some Color
Decorate with pillows and plants! Don’t suppress the personality and style that lives inside your home when you walk out the back door. Outdoor pillows are a great way to add a pop of color or accent from otherwise bland outdoor furniture. Now is a great time to take advantage of online sales on summer essentials. Place an order for delivery, stay home, and stay safe. Wayfair has a plethora of outdoor pillows started at $9.99 https://bit.ly/358aRz0
One of the many great benefits of living in the south is the ability to grow some amazing plants. Adding a palm tree can transform your outdoor space into what feels like a tropical oasis. Also, you can spruce up your outdoor living space with potted plants, adding color and vibrance to outdoor space. When planting fruit trees the benefits are two-fold, plants create a tropical and comforting ambiance in addition to bearing delicious and colorful fruits. This year I have added a Key Lime tree to our patio and I can’t wait to try my first Key Lime!
Another one of my favorite ways to add fragrance and liveliness to my outdoor patio is with small herb pots. I especially love to grow mint. During the day it can be added to water for a crisp and refreshing flavor and in the evening it can be thoroughly enjoyed as the main ingredient in Mojitos.
Fire up the grill
Now that you have energized and decorated your living space, there is one more important component that needs to be mentioned. The grill! For many, grilling is the only way to cook in the summer months. At our house, we prefer a charcoal grill, which adds a smokey flavor.
For convenience, a gas/propane grill is a great addition to your patio or deck. Unlike the charcoal grill, there are no bags of charcoal or lighter fluid to handle and store. Another benefit of a gas grill is that it will reach cooking temperature much faster than a charcoal grill. If you have other gas/propane appliances in your house another great outdoor living extra is to have your grill connected directly to your propane tank or gas line. This will eliminate the need to refill a propane tank throughout the summer months.

Block the Scorching Summer Sun!
Adding a retractable awning to your patio or deck extends the useability of your outdoor living space while, at the same time, protecting you and your outdoor furniture from the harsh summer heat and damaging UV rays. During the high heat of the mid-summer months, outdoor time is usually limited to coming and going from an air-conditioned home. With a retractable outdoor awning, there is no need to come inside while the summer sun is blazing. Optional motorization allows you to transform your patio or deck into a covered area blocking the heat of direct sunlight with the push of a button. Further, it allows for easy retraction for a great view of a clear summer evening sky.
Another benefit of an Outdoor retractable awning is that it protects the interior of your home and reduce your cooling costs. Reducing the temperature of both your indoor and outdoor living space while conserving energy has never been so easy. Not only do outdoor awnings protect you from the heat, but they also protect you from sudden summer rain showers.
